License Prerequisites:
  • Licenses are based on the chassis.
  • License is keyed off of the chassis serial number.
  • One License file containing a key for each “interface” type used in the chassis. a. US channels
b. DS channels
c. 1G links
d. 10G links
  • License file is transferred to the BSR and enter via the “CLI”.
  • License algorithm counts the number of “no shutdown” channels or interface links.
  • Adding a new license, overrides the previous license.
  • On a downgrade of a license (reducing the number of channels), operator must “shutdown” the extra channels before the license command is accepted.
  • Licenses are not required for spares or redundant cards.
  • Until a license is loaded, only GigE interfaces may be used. a. CMTS channels cannot be “no shutdown”
b. The loaded license must contain licenses for each “no shutdown” interface.
c. There is no charge for the 1 Gig interfaces but they must be ordered and put in the license to be able to use them.
d. Interfaces can be provisioned, but must remain “shutdown” until a license is loaded.
  • Licenses will be required for lab and field trial systems.
License Installation Steps:
Step 1: FTP license file to BSR
BSR:7A#copy ftp: nvram:
name of destination file ? BSR64000_1234_1234.lic
Address or name of remote host []? 192.168.10.201
remote filename [BSR64000_1234_1234.lic]?
Step 2: Install license file
BSR:7A(config)#license install nvram:BSR64000_1234_1234.lic
"License file: nvram:BSR64000_1234_1234.lic
Chassis Validation: Confirmed - The entered license file is correctly
assigned to this BSR64000.
License Validation: The license file allows operation of:
32 downstream channels, 48 upstream channels,4 NSI-10G ports
Is this correct [yes/no]?yes
License Validation: Confirmed
Issue 'copy-running-config startup-config' to make this license
configuration persistent
Step 3: Save the running config to the startup config
BSR:7A(config)# copy run start
Review license information:
BSR:7A# show license interfaces
Interface Type Feature ID Authorized In Use
